How to Verify SC01

SC01 looks identical to SC05 in the Tesla app. Both say “Free Supercharging” and “Lifetime Award.” The only way to be certain is to check the option code on the vehicle. Start with what you have:

I only have a VIN

Pre-purchase checks

Quick signals you can run before contacting the seller. These narrow the field, but don't prove SC01 on their own.

Confirm the build window

SC01 was only available on cars ordered on or before January 15, 2017 and delivered before April 2017. Anything later cannot have it.

  1. 1.Open the VIN Decoder and paste the vehicle's VIN.
  2. 2.Check the build date. If it's after April 2017, stop here. The car can't be SC01.

EV-CPO.com Lookup

Quick online check using VIN. Only works for vehicles that have been listed on Tesla's inventory.

  1. 1.Go to ev-cpo.com/lookup
  2. 2.Enter the vehicle's VIN number
  3. 3.Review the results for supercharging status
  4. 4.Look for 'SC01' in the option codes or 'Free Unlimited Supercharging' in the features
  • No results does NOT mean no SC01. EV-CPO only tracks cars that were listed on Tesla's own inventory; Private Sale cars never appear.
  • Listings can be out of date even for cars EV-CPO does track.

On-the-spot checks

What you can confirm while looking at the vehicle with the seller. Strong indicators, but the Tesla app can't tell SC01 from SC05 on its own.

SC01 vs SC05 look identical in the app
Both SC01 and SC05 show “Free Supercharging” and “Lifetime Award” in the Tesla app. The app alone is not enough. Pair it with one of the definitive checks below.

Premium Connectivity Check

Quick first indicator visible on the vehicle's MCU screen

  1. 1.Look at the vehicle's center touchscreen (MCU)
  2. 2.Check for Premium Connectivity subscription status in the vehicle's settings
  3. 3.If Premium Connectivity is being CHARGED (renewed or subscription active), SC01 has likely been stripped
  4. 4.Vehicles with active SC01 include Premium Connectivity for free. No subscription is needed.
  • If Premium Connectivity renews or charges, SC01 has been stripped from the vehicle.

Tesla App Verification

Check the seller's Tesla mobile app directly

  1. 1.Ask the seller to open the Tesla app on their phone
  2. 2.Navigate to the vehicle's details/specs page
  3. 3.Scroll to the bottom and look for 'Free Unlimited Supercharging' in the specs list
  4. 4.Also check the Charging section. It should show 'Free Supercharging' with 'Lifetime Award'.
  • SC05 (non-transferable) looks IDENTICAL to SC01 in the app. Both say 'Free Supercharging' and 'Lifetime Award'.

Definitive verification

The only ways to confirm SC01 (not SC05) without ambiguity. Both require the seller to log into their Tesla account on a computer.

Tesla Account API (Most Reliable)

Check the option codes directly from Tesla's system

  1. 1.Ask the seller to log into their Tesla account on a computer (not the app)
  2. 2.Have them navigate to: tesla.com/teslaaccount/oxp-bff-api/user-orders
  3. 3.This will display raw JSON data with all vehicle option codes
  4. 4.Search for '$SC01' in the results
  5. 5.If you see $SC01, the vehicle has transferable free supercharging
  6. 6.If you see $SC05, it has free supercharging but it is NOT transferable
  • The seller must be logged into the account the car is registered to
  • If the seller refuses this check, be cautious. They may be hiding SC05 status.
  • Use Ctrl+F (or Cmd+F) to search the JSON for SC01. Or paste the response into the SC Code Finder below.

100% client-side. Nothing leaves your browser.

Compositor Image URL Method

Extract option codes from the vehicle's image URL

  1. 1.Ask the seller to log into their Tesla account on a computer
  2. 2.Go to the vehicle management / 'Manage' page where the car image is shown
  3. 3.Right-click on the car image and select 'Copy image address' or 'Open image in new tab'
  4. 4.The URL will contain all the vehicle's option codes
  5. 5.Look for '$SC01' in the URL parameters
Example compositor URL
https://static-assets.tesla.com/v1/compositor/
?model=mx&view=STUD_3QTR&size=1440
&options=$RFPX,$USSB,$X013,$S06B,$ME02,$QLEB,$SR04,$SP00,$X021,$SC01

Option codes are comma-separated. Look for $SC01. If you see $SC05 instead, supercharging is NOT transferable.
